Acceptance rules vary by company, material and disposal facility. At Haulchemy, we take most common household and commercial junk: furniture, appliances, mattresses, electronics, yard waste and general clutter. Hazardous and regulated material is not accepted: paint and solvents, chemicals, asbestos, fuel, propane tanks, medical waste and explosives. Unusually heavy materials such as concrete and shingles need separate review and pricing.
What we commonly remove
Most of what leaves a home or business is straightforward. Across our junk removal, hauling and cleanout services the usual list looks like this:
- Furniture: sofas, beds, dressers, dining sets, office furniture
- Appliances: refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, water heaters
- Mattresses and box springs of any size
- Electronics: TVs, monitors, computers, printers
- General household clutter, boxes and bags
- Yard waste, branches and storm debris
- Hot tubs, playsets and trampolines
- Light construction and remodel debris
- Whole-property, garage, basement and storage unit cleanout contents
If it is a normal household or commercial item and it is not on the restricted list below, send us a photo and we will confirm.
What we cannot take
Haulchemy does not accept hazardous or regulated materials that require specialized handling. For these items, customers should use the appropriate local program or qualified disposal provider.
- Paint, solvents and household chemicals
- Asbestos or suspected asbestos-containing materials
- Fuel, gasoline, oil and other flammable liquids
- Propane tanks and pressurized cylinders
- Medical, biohazardous or infectious waste
- Ammunition, explosives and fireworks
If we find material like this once we are on site, we leave that item and carry on with the rest of the approved job where we can.
The EPA’s household hazardous waste guidance covers what counts as hazardous and how it has to be handled, and the NC DEQ Solid Waste Section is the authority for disposal rules here in North Carolina.
The grey area: heavy and special-handling items
Some things are not prohibited but are not standard either.
Concrete, dirt, brick and roofing shingles are handled differently from standard household junk and may require separate pricing or may not be accepted for a particular job. They weigh far more per cubic yard than household junk, and disposal facilities charge by weight. Send us photos before scheduling so we can confirm.
Tires are accepted, but additional disposal fees may apply depending on quantity and type.
Appliances, electronics and mattresses are taken, though each can carry its own recycling fee depending on where it has to go. See Appliance Removal, Electronics Removal and Mattress Removal.
What happens to the things we take
When practical, usable items may be routed to donation or reuse options, and recyclable materials may be separated where appropriate. What cannot be reused or recycled goes to an appropriate disposal facility.
