Junk removal pricing with Haulchemy starts at $99 for a single item or minimum pickup, with standard load pricing up to a full 15-cubic-yard load starting at $599. Most jobs are priced by how much trailer space the items use, with standard labor, loading, sweep-up and normal disposal included. Heavy materials and special-disposal items may be priced separately, and the final price is confirmed before loading.
Pricing is based on how much space your items take up
Haulchemy prices most standard junk removal jobs by the amount of space the items take up in the trailer rather than by the hour. You are quoted a minimum pickup or a fraction of a load: an eighth, a quarter, a half, three quarters or a full load. That price covers the labor, the loading, the sweep-up and normal disposal.
At Haulchemy, a full load means up to approximately 15 cubic yards of usable trailer space. That gives you a real reference point rather than a vague “truckload”:
- 1/8 load, about 1.88 cubic yards. A few small items, a few bags or boxes, or a small pile.
- 1/4 load, about 3.75 cubic yards. A small furniture pickup, several bags or boxes, or a small area cleanout.
- 1/2 load, about 7.5 cubic yards. A small room cleanout, part of a garage, or several pieces of furniture.
- 3/4 load, about 11.25 cubic yards. A larger garage or basement cleanout, multiple-room clutter, or a substantial furniture removal.
- Full load, up to 15 cubic yards. A large cleanout, several rooms of unwanted items, or a substantial mixed household load.
These examples are approximate. Actual load size depends on the dimensions, shape and how efficiently the items can be loaded.
You can see the current starting price for each size on our junk removal pricing page.
What changes the price
Volume is the main factor
Two jobs with the same number of items can price differently if one of them takes up twice the space once it is loaded. Furniture and mattresses eat volume quickly; boxes stack tightly.
Access and stairs
This is where you should be careful comparing quotes. Long carries, multiple flights of stairs, narrow doorways and gated access all add time to a job, and at Haulchemy they can add to the price. We would rather tell you that upfront than surprise you on the day, so mention them when you request your estimate.
Items that need taking apart
Sheds, playsets, trampolines and hot tubs have to be dismantled before they can be loaded. That labor is priced into the quote. See Hot Tub Removal and Playset & Trampoline Removal for how those jobs run.
Heavy materials
Heavy materials such as concrete, dirt, brick and roofing shingles are handled differently from standard household junk and may require separate pricing or may not be accepted for a particular job. They weigh far more per cubic yard than household junk and disposal facilities charge by weight. Send us photos before scheduling so we can confirm.
Special disposal items
Appliances, electronics, mattresses and tires can carry their own recycling or disposal fees depending on the facility. Current per-item fees are listed on our pricing page, which is where they are kept up to date. Where those materials are allowed to go is set by state rules, and the NC DEQ Solid Waste Section is the authority for North Carolina.
What is not included
Hazardous and regulated materials are not something we can transport: paint and solvents, household chemicals, asbestos, fuel and flammable liquids, propane tanks, medical waste, and ammunition or explosives. Our guide on what junk removal companies can and cannot take covers the full list.
How to get an accurate number
Photos are the fastest route. A few wide shots of the pile or room, plus a close-up of anything large or unusual, is usually enough for us to size the load. Tell us the pickup ZIP code and whether there are stairs or difficult access, and we will come back with an estimate.
The estimate is not the last word: the final price is confirmed on site before anything is loaded. Nothing goes on the trailer until you have approved it.
